BOSTON, May 20 /PRNewswire/ -- Television business news magazine "Business Now" this week profiles a company using technology to become a world leader in sales solutions for pharmaceutical corporations; visits a firm creating on- line auction excitement by combining technology and entertainment; and takes an inside look at the roller coaster life of a day trader.
Business Now" airs at 9 a.m. Sunday, May 23rd on WCVB-TV.
The reports also are being broadcast on the "Business Now" web site at www.batv.com.
This week "Business Now" profiles:
1) Dendrite International, a New Jersey-based global leader in providing sales solutions for the pharmaceutical and consumer-packaged goods industries. More than 43,000 sales representatives from over 150 corporations in 17 countries rely on Dendrite software, services and training. Dendrite has 750 employees around the world and has been racking up growth of nearly 50 percent quarter-by-quarter. CEO John Bailye, a national finalist for Entrepreneur of the Year in the software and information services category, says about 45 percent of the company's current sales come from products, customers and services Dendrite didn't have 18 months ago. "We're almost continuously on a re-invention cycle," says Bailye.
2) Bid.Com, carving out a niche as a unique Internet auction site that combines entertainment pizzazz with technology. Unlike many web sites, Bid.Com is able to hold a Dutch auction on line. President Jeffrey Lymburner says, "It combines the notion the longer I wait, the better the price -- with the real life experience of saving hundreds and hundreds of dollars on something. And like shopping at Macy's or discount days at a department store when you create a frenzy, we have that effect on the shopping experience." Bid.Com now offers auctions for all tastes, but says its business-to-business sales will become a dominant part of its future business.
3) Day Trader Jeff, who is seeking to capitalize on the day trading rage. "Business Now" anchor Karen Ryan reports that while day trading is the rage, it's also controversial -- drawing scrutiny from securities regulators who are concerned about full disclosure of risks to day trading investors. Her report gives viewers an inside look at what it's like to play the market-as she chronicles a day in Jeff's life. The day trader himself says, "The personality you need is, you have to be willing to take chances. You need to make money and not brow beat yourself and you have to have confidence in yourself." Some of his confidence comes from knowing his wife is supportive of his risky new job. For Jeff, it was a frustrating day, but he adds, "Tomorrow is another day, so we'll be doing it then."
