Fed: 300 Sydney buses to be fuelled by natural gas

Sydney will soon have 300 of its buses running on compressed natural gas as part of
a federal initiative to help reduce greenhouse gases.

The buses will be fuelled by natural gas under the Alternative Fuels Conversion Program
worth $12.4 million in federal grants.

A further 248 buses will later be converted in Adelaide, Brisbane and Perth.

Federal Environment Minister ROBERT HILL says the government will fund up to half of
the conversion cost to either compressed natural gas or liquefied petroleum gas.
